Self-Initiated Project
Astronomica - Museum of Space
Astronomica is a reimagined version of the abandoned Universal Power House, turning it into a vibrant Museum of Space. Instead of leaving the site unused, the project brings it back to life as an immersive, educational experience. It builds on the original planet-inspired design, transforming it into a place where people can explore science, connect with the community, and enjoy something unique.

The Universal Power House in Campbelltown was an ambitious architectural project that was never realised, leaving behind a neglected, underutilised structure with strong visual potential. Despite its planet-inspired design, the site currently lacks purpose, cultural value, and community engagement. The challenge is to transform this failed development into a meaningful, functional destination that reactivates the space and reconnects it with the community through education and experience.

The Universal Power House remains an unrealised and neglected structure, representing wasted architectural potential and missed cultural value for the community.
Repurpose the abandoned building into Astronomica Museum of Space, transforming a failed development into a vibrant cultural and educational landmark.
There is a shortage of immersive, interactive science and space-focused environments that make learning exciting and accessible for families, students, and young adults.
Design interactive exhibits, VR experiences, and technology-driven installations that make space education experiential rather than passive.
The abandoned Universal Power House lacks a clear identity, cohesive visual direction, and emotional connection, leaving it without meaning or impact. Without a strong brand strategy, any redevelopment risks feeling fragmented, inconsistent, and uninspiring, failing to engage the community or communicate a compelling purpose.
Develop Astronomica as a fully integrated brand system with a clear narrative, strong visual identity, and immersive design approach, ensuring consistency across digital, environmental, and spatial touchpoints while transforming the neglected structure into a meaningful, engaging space museum.
Defined the vision of transforming the abandoned Universal Power House into the Astronomica Museum of Space. Established mission, vision, and target audience.
Developed the logo, refined typography (Dune Rise + Montserrat), explored “type as image,” and defined the cosmic colour palette (deep blues and blacks).
Created a structured brand guideline covering visual rules, typography hierarchy, colour consistency, and logo applications.
Designed the website using a dark, space-inspired interface with strong typographic hierarchy and immersive imagery.
Planned spatial layout (AutoCAD), designed orientation and directional signage, and developed a large-scale typographic landmark installation.
Applied the identity across uniforms, tote bags, vehicle branding, and other physical touchpoints to demonstrate consistency.

For this stage of the project the focus was on creating a series of typographic posters that could extend beyond print and work across different formats. The idea was to design something flexible and visually strong enough to be reused on billboards, tote bags, and other merchandise.
The posters explore space-inspired typography, using shapes, movement, and layout to reflect themes like exploration, curiosity, and the vastness of the universe. Each design was created to stand on its own but also feel consistent as part of the overall Astronomica identity.
This approach not only builds a recognisable visual language for the project but also allows the designs to easily translate into real-world applications, helping Astronomica feel more like a tangible, branded experience rather than just a concept.

Part of the project also included creating mockups across real-world applications like cars, tote bags, and other merchandise. This helped show how the Astronomica branding would look outside of posters and in everyday contexts. It was a quick way to test consistency, visibility, and overall impact, making the concept feel more realistic and ready for real-world use.

This project focused on developing creative thinking and exploring how design can shape real-world experiences and impact a community. The idea was to take an abandoned space and turn it into something meaningful, while building a strong, consistent brand from start to finish.
Across the project, I worked through the full design process. From defining the concept and audience, to creating the visual identity, digital experience, and physical applications. A big focus was keeping everything cohesive, making sure the brand felt consistent across typography, colours, environments, and mockups.
The final outcome is a fully realised concept for Astronomica, showing how a clear vision and strong branding can transform an idea into a believable, immersive experience.
